Pencil, charcoal and digital drawing of a Louboutin high heel shoe and tattoo on leg.

Pending Permission

“AND STILL I RISE”

Artistically, I like to incorporate a splash of colour in my drawings, to contrast the richness of the black charcoal and graphite pencil. When I created this piece, I wasn’t consciously aware of the added meaning it would bring to me by colouring the sole red. One of the most well-known shoe designers is Christian Louboutin, the creator of the signature red soled shoe. These highly coveted shoes are expensive, luxurious and designed to stand out. I find it an interesting coincidence that I was in the process of rediscovering my worth when I created this drawing, so the red sole gives this drawing an extra special message of worth and empowerment for me.

As I navigate the world of Art that is so new to me, I find myself learning new things in this industry. One of those things is how important it is to give credit to other creators/designers/photographers that inspire the work that I create. In addition to giving credit, it may be necessary to request permission prior to selling prints. After doing a bit of research, I discovered the red sole shoe is in fact trademarked. I’m still learning what this means for my art piece and whether or not I need to request permission from the Louboutin brand, but I think it is a good place to start. I wish to work with other artists, not create a divide. For this reason, this art piece is pending permission from the Louboutin brand and will currently not be available for sale unless permission is given. Thank you for your patience and understanding. ❤️
